Head Coach for the Black Stars, James Kwesi Appiah has emphasized that Ghana is not favorite to lift the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite the elimination of defending champions Cameroon, as well as host nation Egypt from the tournament.

The round of 16 has sprung up lots of surprises with some of the less fancied side dispatching teams tagged as favorites out of the tournament. Host nation Egypt, Cameroon, and Herve Renard’s Morocco have all been sent home packing at the round of 16.

This many believe has enhanced Ghana’s chances of finally ending a 37-year long wait to lift the trophy.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Sunday ahead of the Black Stars round of 16 match against Tunisia however, Coach James Kwesi Appiah refused to accept the favorite tag whiles citing that results from other games have proven that there is nothing like that in this year’s tournament.

“We are not the favorites after the formal champions and the tournament hosts exited as well as Morocco. As you see in this competition there are no favorites but we will give our best to qualify”, the gaffer said.

Ghana is expected to lock horns with Tunisia later this evening at the Ismailia Stadium to battle for a place in the quarter-finals. Kick off time is at 19:00GMT.
