Kumasi Asante Kotoko has shockingly asked head coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor to step aside as manager despite leading the team to qualify for the next edition of the CAF Champions League.
CK Akonnor recently led the Porcupine Warriors to win the tier 1 of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition which has given them the nod to represent Ghana in the 2019/2020 edition of CAF's flagship competition.
Even before the Kumasi based side commences preparation for the upcoming competition, confirmed reports indicate that they have parted ways with their manager.
CK Akonnor confirmed the news earlier today in an interview with Kumasi based Oyerepa FM. According to him, the management of the club has asked him to step aside and take over as the club’s technical director.
“Yes it's true I am no more the coach of Kotoko. I have been asked to step aside but to take over as technical director. I can't comment, the former Black Stars captain noted.
Meanwhile, information reaching Modernghana sports has revealed that Kotoko is in talks with Ashanti Gold manager Kjetil Zachariassen to bring him on board.
