Kuffour Misses Training

Ghana's hardworking defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour, skipped Black Stars' training yesterday as a result of an injury he sustained in their opening Group D game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Port Said last Monday.

The AS Roma defender who played a great game was stretchered off the pitch in the second half of the match after he fell down heavily from an aerial challenge in front of the Stars goal. Determined to die for the nation, Kuffour returned to finish the game, albeit in pain.

Team doctor, Martin Engmann, confirmed that Kuffour was rested in yesterday's training as a result of the thigh sprain.

He, however, gave the assurance that the steely defender, who organised the Stars defence so well in Monday's game which the Ghanaians lost 0-1, would be fit enough to be in the Stars' line-up against Senegal at the Port Said Stadium on Friday.

Skipper Stephen Appiah, who also had to receive medical attention at a stage in the game, trained with his colleagues.

While players of the first team that played against Nigeria engaged in light training, those on the bench were taken through some rigourous tactical training by Coach Ratomir Dujkociv and his assistants.
