Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Abubakari Damba has disclosed that the Black Stars has no excuse than to go to this year’s Africa Cup of Nations and perform at the highest level to please Ghanaians.
The West African giant will make another appearance at the continental showdown in an attempt to win a 4th AFCON title. Government and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture has pledged to make any provision needed to help the team succeed at the tournament.
Speaking in an interview with Class FM on Tuesday afternoon, Coach Damba stressed that there are a lot of investments being made to motivate the Black Stars and they will need to pay back by performing at the highest level.
“What you need to understand is that the situations are different, the circumstances are different and the generations are different just as you mentioned but you need to understand that certain motivations come along and they need to be reciprocated”.
“You and I are aware of the kind of motivation that is being given to this particular Black Stars. It is unmeasurable and they know it themselves, you and I knows. So what is there for them to do is to give us back that gesture of high performance. It is very very important”, the former goalkeeper’s trainer of the Black Stars said.
This year’s AFCON will be hosted by Egypt from June 21 to June 19. Ghana has been pitted in Group F alongside defending champions Cameroon as well as Benin and Guinea Bissau.
