Accra Hearts of Oak became the first team to book their ticket to the semis of the Normalization Committee Special Cup competition following their win over Karela United.

The Ghana Premier League giants pipped Karela United 1-0 in the match-day twelve on Wednesday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians needed the win to ensure they played at the knockout stage but they met an equally good Karela side who came into the match well prepared to cause an upset.

A 75th-minute spot-kick goal by Christopher Bonney handed them all the needed points to extend their lead on top of Zone B to 25 points.

With two matches to end the competition, Coach Kim Grant and his charges have qualified to the tier 1 semis and the round of 32 for the tier 2.

Karela United, Liberty Professionals, Elmina Sharks and West African Football Academy SC will be battling for the second semis slot of the Zone B.

Hearts of Oak will host Elmina Sharks on Sunday in the match-day 13 of the Normalization Committee Special Cup competition.
