President of Ghana Rugby Union, Herbert Mensah has commended the national team, the Eagles for their good show against Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday in which they lost narrowly to the experienced side that has played at the world cup by 22-23.

He said Ghana Rugby is coming up steadily, and the working progress of the team is becoming better.

He noted that this is the first time Ghana has lost in 3 years and they could have done better with a fully fit full squad. He urged some players who have stopped training to humbly return as the future looks bright.

He commended the companies that have been supporting the team and promised to give them the expected mileage and media attention.

On the awards, he said SWAG voted democratically for rugby to win national team of the year and thanked the members of the media who report on sports for recognizing Rugby for the second time at the prestigious awards, as he was honoured last year and this year is for the team and players.

He thanked Chester, a member of the executive for picking up the award on behalf of the union.

He praised the players who contributed for the success of the team, and urged them to work harder and as they prepare for future tournaments like the Africa Silver Cup and the world cup.

He commended Rafatu Inusah and the ladies who promoting and spreading the message of Rugby in the schools.
