Ghanaian defender Rashid Sumaila has tipped Black Stars as one of the teams capable of winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to be hosted by North African against Egypt.

Having won their last title way back in 1982, Ghana is chasing a 5th AFCON glory on Egyptian soil to finally break a 37-year-old jinx. To do some though, they will have to beat some of Africa’s top countries including Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal as well as the host nations.

Speaking to footballmadeinghana.com, Rashid Sumaila has expressed optimism in Ghana’s chances of winning the prestigious tournament. The Red Star Belgrade defender believes it will all depend on Coach James Kwesi Appiah’s team’s ability to see off their opponents and get to the finale.

“We have great players and I feel we can do something very meaningful in Egypt. We have come close twice and we can win it this third time if we get to the finals. It is always great to serve your nation and we are all ready to offer our quota if we are called”, he said.

Ahead of the tournament, Ghana has been drawn in Group F with the likes of Benin, Guinea Bissau, and defending champions Cameroon. The official squad will be announced in the next couple of weeks before the team flies out to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for camping.
