Nigeria's Henry Atseye, on Friday beat Ghana's Memford Owusuwin of International Tennis Federation/West Africa Under-18 Tennis Championship.Atseye, said his determination to move up in the ITF rankings made him fought harder to claim his first title at the international championship.
Atseye won the boys' singles of the championship by defeating highly promising Ghanaian toungster, Memford Owusu, in straight sets of 6-2, 6-4.
He said that his current position in the rankings was not encouraging enough and “that is why I had to put myself together for a better position.”
I didn't play for any prize-money but to get more points so that I can move up on my current position in the world. I will soon play at ITF Futures if I continue like this.”
The-16-year-old, who trains at Chevron Tennis Project, was dubbed on the first day of the tournament as the potential winner of the tournament.
