Sassuolo were on the verge of qualifying for Europe next season prior to Kevin Prince Boateng’s January loan move to Spanish giant Barcelona, according to Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi.
De Zerbi men will miss out on European match as they are currently on the 10th position in the Italian Seria A.
“In January, the loss pf Boateng was important. We were four points behind the Europa League and ix from the Champions League,” De Zerbi told SkyItalia.
“Probably we are not ready for Europe, nor is Samp for example, for example, who has been working for this for three years.
“For us it was the first, last summer we changed a lot, the team is very young. If we were to keep the best going to finish the rose, then we will surely grow.”
Kevin Prince Boateng was spearheading Sassuolo’s frontline before his astonishing loan move to Barcelona in the January transfer window.
Barcelona have the option to make struggling Kevin Prince Boateng’s loan move permanent at the end of the season.
