The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has honoured Dr. Daniel McKorley with a special trophy for his contribution to Tennis in Ghana, Africa and the world.

The CIMG Marketing Man of the Year and chief of two communities in Ada and Tamale who is CEO of McDan Group of companies first sponsored the McDan National Open which developed to the West African Open, and now the McDan ITF World Tour with players from over 30 countries participating.

Dr. McKorley who has invested in other sports like football and boxing said after putting Ghana on the Tennis map, the next move is for the nation to climb from world zone 3 to zone 2.

The one-week event saw first class Tennis and the players really exhibited their talents and skills in the game.

Storrie from UK beat Benjamin Lock, the number one seed 6-4, 6-4 to win his first international trophy.

John Lock and brother Ben Lock won the Men’s Doubles by beating the pair of Darry Hale of Britain and Niklas Johansen of Sweden 6-4, 6-1.

They were presented with trophies and souvenirs from the sponsors of the tournament and cash prizes.

Some companies that supported the tournament were Twellium Industries Limited, Hollard Insurance, Interplast Ghana Limited, Palace Home Decor and Fox Cooling.

Meanwhile, Woolsworth owned by Mr. J. Ofori Attah has promised to be part of the next tournament as he loves and plays Tennis.

Majeed Bawa, Deputy DG of the National Sports Authority (NSA) said sports unifies people should taken serious.

Perry Okudzeto, the Deputy Sports Minister urged the media to promote sports positively so that it will attract more sponsors. He thanked the ITF and McDan for making Ghana a world tour destination.
