Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr George Afriyie has urged coach for the Black Stars, James Kwesi Appiah be bold and only hand call-up to players who are hungry enough to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title.

Ghana will make another appearance at the prestigious tournament in search of a 5th title that has eluded them for over 3 decades now. With the tournament being hosted by Egypt this year, winning gold is expected to struggle if they are to take home the ultimate prize.

Speaking in an interview on Oman FM on however, Mr George Afriyie has disclosed that he believes winning the AFCON this year is achievable if the gaffer ensures certain things are done. According to the experienced football administrator, Coach Kwesi Appiah must see to it that his final squad is made up of players who are hungry for success.

The Okyeman planners bankroller adds that the team must also prepare well for the continental showpiece in order to be able to compete with the rest of the 24 countries who will be competing in Egypt in June.

“I expect Coach James Kwesi Appiah to be bold and select players who look hungrier. Very hungry to win the cup for us. Then the second thing is preparation. The last one will be motivation for which it needs to be discussed and approved and agreed before we leave here in Ghana”, he said.

Ghana is in Group F with defending champions Cameroon as well as Benin and Guinea Bissau.

The tournament will run from June 21st to July 19th, 2019.
