Energetic Ghanaian midfielder, Afriyie Acquah has insisted that winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) trophy has become their topmost priority.

The country is yet to end its 37 years trophy drought after winning the ultimate in 1982 in Libya.

But the Serie A player who missed Ghana’s last AFCON qualifier against Kenya at the Accra Sports Stadium is upbeat the time has come for this generation to end the trophy drought.

"Winning the AFCON is our major aim and we always discuss it among ourselves when on national duty, he said in an interview published on footballitalia.net.

Acquah admitted the difficulty playing relatively unknown nations in the competition but was confident the Black Stars would scale the group hurdle.

“It’s always difficult when you play against teams like Guinea Bissau and Benin because you don’t know what they’ve got up their sleeves. But I’m confident we can qualify out of the group” he assured.

The 27-year-old Empoli midfielder who said he doesn’t know whether he would be part of the team to the continental showpiece promised to give his all whenever Coach Kwasi Appiah, gives him the opportunity.

“Anytime I’m given the opportunity to play for my country, I give my all. But I believe the Coach knows best when it comes who deserves a call-up”, he said
