Ade Coker To Halt GFA Elections

16.12.2005 LISTEN
By CitiFm

Former Vice Chairman of the GFA and an aspirant in the race for GFA President, Joseph Ade Coker says all contestants for the GFA Presidency, who are currently in the GFA Management, should resign in order to allow for a level playing field ahead of the elections otherwise the GFA elections will be cancelled. The Acting President of the GFA, Kwasi Nyantakyi has filed his nomination to contest the GFA elections scheduled for December 30, a decision which Mr. Ade Coker thinks will give Mr. Nyantakyi an advantage over the other contestants since he will enjoy good will.

Apart from the Acting President, four other personalities have filed for nomination, including Mr. Ade Coker.

Speaking to CITI SPORTS, Mr. Coker retorted that it is morally wrong for a Chairman of a constitutional draft to stand for election under the same constitution and therefore it will appropriate for Mr. Nyantakyi to resign as Acting President so as to pave way for a level playing ground for all the contestants ahead of the elections otherwise the December 30 el! ections will be cancelled.

He also reacted swiftly to a GRAPHIC SPORTS publication yesterday to the effect that he might stand the chance of being disqualified at the vetting committee because his nomination process is illegal.

The new FA Statutes stipulates in Article 28 clause 2 that 'any member may propose a candidate for the position of President. Such a nomination must be seconded by at least 10 members of the GFA Congress'.

According to the Graphic sports publication, Mr. Ade Coker may stand the danger of being disqualified because his nomination was seconded by colts clubs, Cowlane Babies and Zebi FC, which are not recognised members on the GFA Congress.

But the former Olympics boss maintained that since the members of the GFA Congress has not been instituted yet there was no way he could contact them for nomination and hence his decision to contact legitimate members of the GFA for a secondment of his nomination.
