Northern Sector wins Africa Day Soccer match

Accra, Dec 14, GNA - The Northern Sector on Wednesday, became champions of the Africa Sports Day Celebration Soccer Competition, when they defeated their counterparts from the Southern Sector 3-2 at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra. The Southerners were the first to have a bite at the cake when Alfred Schall opened the scores in the seventh minute but had their celebration cut short four minutes later when Abubakari Yahaya equalised for the Northerners.

The Northerners never looked back and banged in another goal 32nd minute through Daniel Atta to end the first session. On resumption, the Northerners increased the tally in the 49th minute, when Yakubu Amidu slot in the third goal after a defensive blunder on the part of the Southern side. Vincent Apetor pulled one back for the Southerners on the hour mark from a perfect free kick and they fought relentlessly but failed to cancel the lead till the close of proceedings. For their prize the Northerners received three million cedis and 20 'T' Shirts while the Southerners took home two million cedis and 20 'T' Shirts.
