Head coach for the Ghana u20 team (the Black Satellite), Jimmy Cobblah has indicated that the side’s 2-0 loss in their friendly against Niger is due to some bad decisions taken by the referee on the day to award two penalties to the winners.

The team lost to Niger yesterday in a warm up match ahead of this year’s u20 Africa Cup of Nations which starts on February 2. But According to Coach Cobblah, even though they accept the defeat, they believe they played well and should have won the match if not for the two problematic penalties awarded to Niger.

“It was a good practice for us. Why we are losing all our training games especially the high profile games, we cannot say anything about it. But today I think it was a game we should have won. We think we scored a beautiful goal”.

“The referee said goal but the assistant disallowed it and they got two penalties especially the first one, very doubting. But the two penalties it was the distraction of the referee and we cannot complain about it”, Coach Jimmy Cobblah said in a post-match interview.

The Satellites have lost their last 4 friendly matches and things do not look good for them ahead of the u20 AFCON. The coach is worried about the situation but is hoping the narrative will change when the tournament starts.

“Am somehow worried. And somehow too it happens. I have experienced that before. Sometimes as you go on you lose your training games. You get into the tournament proper then you luck comes”, he said.

The two-time African Champions faces tough opposition from Mali, Senegal and Burkina Faso who have all been pitted in Group B of the competition.
