Asante Kotoko skipper, Amos Frimpong says the current team are nowhere close to the previous players he has played with.

The Porcupine Warriors have qualified for the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup campaign for the first time in 11 years.

The Ghana Premier League recruited eleven new players for their Africa campaign and have been able to break the jinx after defeating Coton Sport on 5:3 on aggregate to book a place at the group stage of the competition.

Despite the qualification, Amos, who has been tipped by football to make the cut to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt says this is not the best Kotoko side he has ever played with.

"This is not the best Kotoko side l have played with even though we have qualified to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup," Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong on Topical Radio Germany Hamburg and Obra Pa 106.9Fm in Ghana Cape Coast.

"There were some seasons we had the best squad but things just did go well for us.

However, he was full of praise for the current players.

"In fact, this team is really playing well and working very hard and it's the reason why we have qualified to the group stage."

Kotoko have been pitched in Group C alongside Al Hilal, Zesco United and Nkana United.

Amos scored two goals in the playoff.
