U23 Afcon Qualifier: Ghana 5-1 Togo

Cup of Nations U23 Afcon Qualifier: Ghana 5-1 Togo
DEC 18, 2018 LISTEN

Ghana’s u23 side, the Black Meteors are a step closer to qualifying to next stage of the u23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying (AFCON) series after whipping their Togolese Counterparts today by five goals to one.

A team led by former Black Stars player Ibrahim Tanko as head coach today locked horns with the Togo team in a match which had been delayed upon a request from Ghana. After 90 minutes of soccer action, it was the Ghana team that reigned supreme. A convincing win means they just have to avoid conceding four unanswered goals in the return leg.

Forward Kwabena Owusu scored a hat-trick together with a goal each from Osman Bukari and Nassam Yakubu to help Ghana stamp their authority on home turf. Klidje Thibault netted Togo’s only goal of the game.

The job looks done here but Ibrahim Tanko and his lads will need to adequately prepare and ensure they enter the second leg with a good mindset. In the absence of domestic football in the country, the team is expected to continue with the normal training sessions as they look to stay fit for the return leg.

The second leg has been schedules for December 22 in Lome. The side that goes through will face tough opposition from Gabon who have already qualified to next stage of the series.
