Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association, Oti Akenteng has attributed the Black Satellites poor showing at this year’s WAFU Zone B u20 Championships to the poor condition of the players who represented at the tournament.

Ghana suffered elimination from the championship after a second successive defeat in Group B on Wednesday afternoon.

The team led by head coach Jimmy Cobblah succumbed to a one zero opening day defeat to Niger before losing to rivals Nigeria in the final match by four goals to two.

Oti Akenteng believes the Satellites could not live up to expectations because they were not in a good condition to be able to compete at a high level.

He opines that Nigeria noticed the deficiency in their game and took advantage to beat them which ensured Ghana was booted out of the competition.

“They detected Ghana was getting lacked at the back of when you take the conditional aspect of it. About ten minutes to the end of the first half you could see that it was telling on them a little bit and that was why I think Nigeria came in to get the equalizer.

“Marking became loose, the central midfield was left open and in the attack too you could see the two attackers were all playing flat and none of them could fall behind and play as an auxiliary so it became a problem for them”, Technical Director Oti Akenteng disclosed whiles reacting to the team’s poor performance.

The Satellites are back in the country and currently camped in Prampram at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence.
