South Africa National Women’s team head coach Desiree Ellis has commended her ladies for the outstanding performance they displayed in the just ended Total Africa Women’s Cup of Nations 2018.

According to her, it is disappointing they team could not win their final against record winners Nigeria.

Nonetheless, she believes her players have been fantastic this year having won the COSAFA and going ahead to get to the finals of the AWCON.

“Of course you are disappointed when you don’t win. We knew it was going to be a hard match and we gave everything we got. But the disappointment stays there and for the group, they have been fantastic”, she said during her post-match interview.

The Banyana Banyana had already beaten the Super Falcons at the group stage and looked the side to win this year’s trophy going into the game yesterday.

Unfortunately, they could not find a way through the defense of their opponents as they lost the shootout lottery.

Desiree Ellis further stated that; “We have been working really hard this year and we knew we had a chance but they defended really well. We had one or two chances and on another, it would have gone in but it didn’t go in. So on that side, we are disappointed”.

The exploits of South Africa to get to the final means they have qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history.
