Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Obuasi Ashanti Gold Mr. Frederick Acheampong has disclosed that the club was forced to part ways with their head coach John Christensen because the league remains on break.

The Obuasi based club announced earlier today that they have terminated the contract of their coach who succeeded CK Akonnor after he was sacked. Speaking to Ash FM on the matter today, Mr. Frimpong observed that they could not continue paying the coach for playing friendly matches in the absence of any league competition.

“The reason for terminating the coach's contract was because football is on break for some time now and we can't be paying the Coach for playing only friendly games”, he said.

He continued “We are not playing any competitive football in the Country so we needed to cut costs in the Club so we thought it wise to terminate the contract of the Coach”.

He further confirmed that the two parties agreed to part ways mutually and Coach John Christensen has been paid in full any amount due him.

“The Contract was terminated mutually and we have paid the Coach everything so we don't owe him anything”.

The team has decided not to appoint a new Coach now until the league starts. This is to avoid spending on a coach with nothing at stake.
