Former Ghana skipper, Charles Akonnor says the controversies surrounding the Black Stars captaincy is getting irritating.

The captaincy has created tension between current skipper Asamoah Gyan and his assistant Andre Ayew.

However, Andre Ayew who is on loan at Fenerbahçe from Swansea City have denied constant allegations that the former Marseille man is obsessed with the armband.

The two players have attempted to downplay the seeming tension but its widely believed there is huge disquiet in both camps.

Gyan is refusing to be disrespected while Andre has also insisted he is not eager to take over the leadership role from the country's all-time top scorer.

And former Ghana captain Charles Akonnor, who was dropped from the Black Stars squad for the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali under bizarre circumstances, says the issue is getting tiring.

“We are all getting tired of Black Stars captaincy issues. it’ not necessary. Gyan is the captain, Dede Ayew is the assistant period. I believe Gyan and the Ayews will be part of the team someday.” he said

The dropping of Akonnor from the squad by former coach Fred Osam Duodu prior to the tournament in Mali, of caused a deep row in Ghanaian football.

Akonnor claimed at the time that the deceased coach had been pressured to take the decision, pointing a finger at ex-Black stars skipper Abedi Pele - who held a senior position at the FA at the time.

However, Osam-Duodu took full responsibility for Akonnor being dropped after Sammy Kuffour refused to take over the reigns.
