Royal Antwerp defender Daniel Opare has revealed he played no role in convincing Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah to hand clubmate William Owusu his first international call-up.
Owusu, who has scored three goals in six league appearances in the Belgian top-flight, got invited for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.
''Our coach is very intelligent and he knows a lot about football. I know he has been watching William for a long time. And I certainly think it's right. William's hard work is rewarded,'' Opare told the club's website.
Opare himself has been yo-yoing with the Black Stars but has urged the 28-year-old to make the most of the opportunity.
''I have the privilege to play at Antwerp with William, we are brothers from the same country. I can tell him how it all works and prepare for the atmosphere,'' he added.
''But William is an experienced player with a lot of qualities, what he does on the field I do not get there.
''The decision was taken by the coach and I was actually more of a messenger (laughs).
''The little extra that I can do for him is to guide him and show me how things are going.''
