SEP 6, 2018 LISTEN

The Ghana u17 team, the Black Starlets opened their WAFU U-17 Zone B campaign today with a goalless draw against host Nation Niger.

Ghana is in Group A with Niger and Togo and after missing out on open day victory, the team will need to win their last group game to progress as well as qualify for the U-17 AFCON next year.

A determined team led by head coach Karim Zito could not find the back of the net at the end of the 90 minutes even though they were awarded a penalty on the 43rd minute. Starlet’s midfielder, Simon Appiah who stepped up to take the penalty could not convert from 12 yards.

Some end to end action in both halves from both teams did not bear any fruits as the teams ended up sharing the spoils at the end of the full 90 minutes.

With today’s results, Coach Karim Zito has to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger in order to ensure the Starlets wins against Togo to book the team’s ticket to the semi-finals as well as u17 AFCON in 2019 to be staged in Tanzania.
