Queenmother urges youth to establish small-Scale industries

Mampong-Akuapem (E/R), Oct 9, GNA- The Queenmother of Mampong-Akuapem, Nana Akua Perbea has called on the youth to be courageous to use their skills to establish small-scale enterprises and develop the courage to nurture such enterprises into industries to create employment for others.

She explained that, it was only through such measures that the youth could take advantage of the current economic environment in the country and contribute towards the reduction in the unemployment rate and create the wealth towards the progress of the country.

Nana Perbea was speaking at Mampong-Akuapem after a four-hour communal labour organized by the youth of the town, on Saturday, led by the Mampong Youth Club as part of activities planned to usher in this year's week-long celebration of the Ohum Festival of the Chiefs and people of Mampong-Akuapem, which starts on Sunday, October 9.

The theme for this year's celebration is " Private sector participations as an engine of growth, the role of the youth." The youth desilted the gutters in the Mampong-Akuapem township, cleared all weedy areas in the town and the community centre.

Nana Perbea urged the youth, who had no skills to submit themselves to skill training to be self-employed, saying that was the only positive way that the youth could help reduce drug abuse, streetism, armed robbery and the growing waywardness among the youth. Mr. Emmanuel Amponsah-Fianko, Chairman of Mampong Youth Club called on the youth to actively get involved in all activities that aimed at development of their communities.

He explained that, it was the only way that the youth could prove that given the chance, they could lived up to their responsibility.

Mr. Amponsah-Fianko said it was not enough for the youth to always go about complaining that the adults had not played the role expected of them to create the environment to make the youth live better but also to prove by their words and actions that given the chance, they could live up to the task.

As part of the festival, last Friday, the Mampong-Akuapem Local Council of Churches organized a half-night vigil to pray for the leadership of the country, the Mampong-Akuapem township and its development, good harvest, peace and for God to intervene to help reduce the number of road accidents in the country.

The Ohum festival is expected to be climax with a durbar of chiefs on Saturday, October 15 and a State Dance at Mampong-Akuapem with a non-denominational thanksgiving service on Sunday October 16.
