Former chairman of the National Division One League Board, Lawyer Kwame Ntow Fianko believes that over 6000 Ghanaian footballers lose their jobs should FIFA ban Ghana.

Football activities in the country have been brought to a halt after the airing of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas 'Number 12' video which has collapsed the foundation of Ghana football.

The government of Ghana took the steps to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after revelations made in the 'Number 12' video.

On Monday, August 13, FIFA issued a statement to government to withdraw its petition against the Ghana Football Association or face a ban.

The world football governing body has given Ghana an ultimatum of two weeks to withdraw the matter from the law court or face its sanction.

However, the renowned legal practitioner has cautioned government to take immediate measures to address the issue or else 6,000 footballers will lose their jobs should FIFA put Ghana on ice.

“I expected government to start the process of prosecuting individuals who were captured in the video receiving bribes and leave the Ghana Football Association as an institution. I think that is why FIFA has threatened to ban Ghana,” he told Ghana Crusader Radio.

“FIFA has no issue with prosecuting individuals caught on camera in the expose’. Its problem is about the direct interference into football activities.

“Government needs to do the right thing, else about 6,000 Ghanaian footballers, will lose their jobs if Ghana suffers a ban from FIFA.”

It would be recalled that multiple award-winning journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas premiered an undercover investigation into Ghana football dubbed ‘Number 12’ on 6 June 2018.

Several matches and football officials caught on camera receiving monies suspected to be bribe, with the then president of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi at the centre of the scandal.

Nyantakyi was handed a 90-day ban by FIFA and he subsequently resigned from the FIFA, CAF and GFA.

The registrar of companies has been appointed as the official liquidator of the Ghana Football Association.
