Abbey Pobi Calls FIFA’s Threat To Ban Ghana A Bluff

Football News Abbey Pobi Calls FIFAs Threat To Ban Ghana A Bluff
AUG 15, 2018 LISTEN

Experienced Football Administrator and bankroller of Neoplan Stars, Abbey Pobi has stated that he does not believe Ghana could be banned by FIFA insisting FIFA is joking with their threat to suspend the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should government not withdraw the liquidation case from court.

FIFA on Monday in a letter addressed to Dr Kofi Amoah, the head of the liaison committee set up to see to the affairs of National teams in the country indicated clearly that the GFA faces suspension if the Government does not withdraw its liquidation case from court.

It can be recalled that the Government of Ghana led by the Attorney General, Madam Gloria Akuffo is taking steps to dissolve the GFA. In that regard, a case is in court to have the GFA liquidated having already named the Registrar General Department to take over the assets of the football governing body in the country.

FIFA in their letter Monday. August 13 explained that they have been observing from afar what is happening in the country since the airing of the Anas video but they want Government to withdraw the liquidation case from court by 27th of August 2018.

Mr Abbey Pobi, however, in an interview with Class FM laughed off FIFA’s threat insisting that government and the people of Ghana has not done anything wrong to merit a ban from FIFA.

“I don’t think we could be banned. I think FIFA is joking. That’s how I see it. Because we have done nothing wrong which will allow FIFA to ban us. All that FIFA is saying is that FIFA has its rules and regulations and does not want cases to be treated at court level. That is why they are asking Government to withdraw that liquidation.

He further advised that government should withdraw the liquidation and then wait on FIFA for the next line of action.

“If you have been asked to take off the case from court, I think its just a small case. You just withdraw the case and then wait for FIFA for the next line of action".

He believes it will be best to wait and see what the world’s football governing body will do if Government withdraws the liquidation from court before taking any more drastic decisions.
