Asaba 2018: Hor Halutie Narrowly Misses Out On A Medal

Ghanaian sprinter, Hor Halutie, finished 4th in the women’s 100m final, narrowly missing out on a medal at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba, Nigeria.

The 19-year-old crossed the finish line in 11.64sec, 0.06sec behind the last medal place, Joy Udo-Gabriel of Nigeria, who took the bronze with a time of 11.58sec.

Making her debut at the African biennial athletic showpiece, Hor put up good performances in both the heat and semi-finals events to progress to Thursday’s final.

But up against experienced legs like fellow countrywoman, Janet Amponsah and fastest woman in the world this year, Ivorian Marie Josee Ta Lou, it was always going to be a tough ask for the 19-year-old.

“I’m very proud of myself because this is my first African Championships and running with all these experienced athletes has really taught me a lot,” Hor told Citi Sports.

Ta Lou won the gold medal in the women’s 100m event, with Ghana’s Janet Amponsah taking the silver.
