Ghana's hugely talented player Emmanuel Boateng suffered a serious meniscus injury while playing for his Spanish club Levante.

The winger suffered the setback while playing for his side in their pre-season friendly against English side Bournemouth on Friday.

Ghanasoccernet.com sources close to the speedy player have now confirmed that he suffered a meniscus injury while playing in the game.

The Ghanaian called for his own substitution during last Friday's friendly against Bournemouth after a bad gesture on the knee.

Now the first medical tests after his injury in the Bournemouth match have revealed that the player who can also play as striker has a meniscus injury.

The Ghanaian striker of Levante was injured in the half hour of the first game of the pre-season game.

Boateng rejoined the team's pre-season training later than his teammates, with permission from the club, since he had played the friendly matches for Ghana prior to the World Cup in Russia.

In Friday's game, Boateng was one of the most outstanding players of the Granota team and, in addition, he had scored a goal.

After half an hour of play, a bad gesture on the knee ignited all the alarms in the Levantista club.

The striker was replaced by caution and left the pitch on his own even though he was limping.

The first examination ruled out any serious injury, although the medical tests that the Ghanaian underwent yesterday, found that he suffered an injury to the meniscus of his left knee.

Throughout today, the striker has been undergoing more tests that will determine the extent of Boateng's injury.
