Bofoakwa beat lions 3-1
Sunyani (B/A), Sept. 21, GNA - Bofoakwa Tano on Wednesday smashed visiting Kpando Heart of Lions 3-1 in their mid-week Ghana Telecom-Premier League match played at the Coronation Park, Sunyani. The match was characterised by bizarre incidents, which needed intervention from security operatives to forestall mayhem. Just before the commencement of the match some supporters of Bofoakwa rushed onto the pitch when news spilled around that Lions' player, Jacob Nettey had broken an egg on the field, which, according to them was against the rules of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The match commissioner, Mr. Owusu of Kumasi and the head of the police security on the field and other officials assigned for the match were drawn to the spot where the egg was allegedly broken. Eventually, the television cameraman on duty at the Park captured the scene for record purposes.
Then 20 minutes into the game, FIFA Referee Christiana Tetteh from Mampong-Ashanti suspended proceedings when some aggrieved supporters of Bofoakwa invaded the field to remove a bottle of water placed in the goalpost of Lions by keeper Mozart Adjetey. Keeper Adjetey resisted their attempt leading to a commotion in the Lions' goal area.
Finally, the referee exercising her authority on the field and with the support of the fourth referee and the match commissioner called on some of the officials of Lions to remove the bottle of water from the posts.
It was after this had been done that the referee signalled for the resumption of proceedings.
Bofoakwa wasted a number of begging chances but eventually hit the back of the net in the 37th minute through Sadat Mohammed. The second half saw the "Otobela" boys still on the offensive and they soon managed to break the defence of Lions, manned by Abdul Razak, Johnson Eklu, Samuel Sawaba and Jerry Akaminko to score their second goal through Yaw Antwi.
In the 52nd minute Mohammed scored his personal second to bring the scores to 3-0 for his side, but Eric Bekoe, who played a yeoman's game for Lions managed to beat down the goal deficit when he scored in the 54th minute.
