Hearts Of Oak is One million Dollars In Debt

We'll Scrutinise $1m Debt Hanging The supporters wing of Accra Hearts of Oak will put the club's accounts under the microscope when they meet next month for their 2005 Annual General Meeting.

The national executive of the Chapters says it is amazed at the almost $1 million debt hanging on the neck of the club and will scrutinise the accounts thoroughly ahead of the club's first Congress since 1994 scheduled for November 19 in Accra.

Mr Ken Kuwornu, a.k.a. Ken Saro Wiwa, Public Relations Officer of the National Chapters Committee,told the Graphic Sports that the Congress provides the club a big opportunity to straighten issues and take important decisions that will affect the club positively,at least, until the next Congress four years later.

“Apart from the content of the accounts,we the Chapters will deliberate on matters involving the registration of members for the club and other means of generating revenue for the operations of the club to ease the problems of delayed salaries of players among others,”the PRO said.

Ahead of the Congress, the Chapters will meet at the Annual General Meeting, a meeting mandated by the constitution of the club to precede the Congress, Mr Kuwornu said.

Mr Maxwell Asabre, General Secretary of the NCC, said separately that the Chapters were,however, yet to receive the accounts of the club from the 2002 financial year to the present.

He said at both the AGM of the Chapters and the Congress of the club,the Chapters would seek to bring the supporters family closer to management in a cordial sharing of ideas, and understanding and appreciation of each other's work.

The Hearts Congress is expected to witness the election of new members to the Board of the club. Hearts Board Chairman Mr Ato Ahwoi and Board Secretary Ernest Thompson have both offered to resign from their respective positions once Congress is held.

The congress could also see the rise of new faces onto the board, with current club Chief Executive Thomas Okine as one of the likely candidates for election onto the policy-making body.

Meanwhile,the Chapters executive has dissociated itself from a supposedly scheduled election of Chapter executives for the Eastern Region.

In a statement,the NCC PRO said the national executive had never discussed the matter at any forum,let alone set a date for the programme.It said anyone who paid any money in this respect did so at his own risk.
