Ghana Cycling President Calls For Dialogue

Mr Mohamed Sahnoon, President of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), has called for dialogue among members of the cycling fraternity, as they seek to address issues raised by some members of the federation ahead of the elective congress.

The GCA has been engulfed by series of accusations by some members and executives who have described the current management of the body as autocratic in their dealings which they deem "unfair and unjust".

Cycling in Ghana has hit a downward surge in recent times with various stakeholders in the federation calling for reforms to rejuvenate the sports, which has won numerous laurels for the country in the past.

Mr Kofi Boakye, a presidential aspirant for the in the next election, has criticised the procedural arrangements by the current administration ahead of the elections and has petitioned the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Authority for the dissolution of the GCF.

But at a press conference at the media centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, Mr Sahnoon enumerated the need to address pertinent issues confronting the association with regards to the upcoming election as well as the overall welfare of athletes in the sports of cycling.

"It has been the agenda of Mr Kofi Boakye to unlawfully come and take over the GCF, which we are not going to allow. There has been some mischievous news circulating that I am under investigation which is untrue.

"There have also been ridiculous allegations of the federation not having a constitution, but we have a constitution since we got affiliated to the UCI and it has been our operating document. So if you are not a member of any club you cannot contest and Kofi Boakye wants to desperately become the President of the federation without following due process," Mr Sahnoon stated.

He stated, "if the aggrieved parties have any form of grievances, they should come to Congress to make their agitations and not resort to the media, which does not help the image and reputation of the association.

"If you say you have 12 chairmen which represent the majority, supporting you in this agenda, why don't you bring them to Congress, so that we can debate and agree on the way forward and that would ultimately be the resolution by Congress and that is the way things ought to be done.''

The elective congress is slated for the June 22 in Tamale as current management are expected to publish the names of eligible delegates by 19th June 2018.
