The Ghana Golf Association (GGA) in collaboration with the Ghana@60 Planning Committee, has launched the second edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament in Accra.

The tournament which is slated for June 16 in Kumasi, is a competition aimed at bringing decision makers and corporate Ghana together to share ideas on how to create businesses for the youth and also serve as a platform to boost the interest of the youth in the sport.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Mr Mike Aggrey, President of the GAA, said there were complaints about the less number of participants used last year, therefore the Association has increased the number of participants across the sub-region from 95 to 150 out of which 30 are females.

He said 'this tournament is not just a golf competition but an informal avenue to bring together decision-makers in corporate Ghana to interact and discuss various business opportunities for the country.

'We are creating a congenial atmosphere for high profile business meetings and networking,' he added.

Mr Aggrey noted that the event would include a presentation dinner which would be honoured by the President of the Republic and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He announced that 20 prizes would be given out to deserving participants after the tournament.

He mentioned that there would be three prizes for ladies who partake in the scratch tournament and two for those in the handicapped contest, while there would be seven prizes for male participants in the scratch contest with three prizes for males in the handicapped contest.

The president said, there would be a golf clinic of 30 minutes to an hour, where an insight on the importance, ethics and technicalities of golf would be given to supporters and the general public.

Mr Mike who launched the tournament expressed their profound gratitude to the sponsors who are using their strength, ideas and resources to support for a successful organisation of the upcoming event.

He encouraged the general public to attend the event and support the participants, adding that it would reveal the need to be interested in partaking in golf sports.

Mr Ken Amankwah, Chairman of the Ghana @ 60 Celebration, Office of the President said it was important that sports is developed generally across the country with important attention dedicated to golf.

'You become greater by being smaller and that is the essence of golf in philosophy,' he said.

The event was also attended by Mr Francis Andoh, Chief Executive Officer of Northwestern Solutions; Madam Esther Amedro, President of Women Golfers in Ghana; Madam Yvonne Botchwey, Director of Marketing and Communication, Universal Merchant Bank; and Mr Joseph Opoku, Manager of Partnership and Enterprise Business, MTN Business Ghana.
