Stephen Appiah lauds Turkish league

Kumasi, Sept 2, GNA - Stephen Appiah, skipper of Ghana's Black Stars has said that his recent transfer to Turkish champions, Fernabahce would enhance his footballing caree since the Turkish league was competitive with a lot of experienced players.

"Fernabahce is a great team in its own right and the Turkish league is competitive just like any other top European league", he said. Appiah who said this in an interview with the GNA Sports at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday, added that, "I have no regrets of my move from Juventus since in this era of professionalism, a player must be prepared for every challenge".

The Ghanaian skipper recently moved to Fernabahce from Juventus in a four-year contract worth about 5.5 million pounds. Appiah who expressed optimism about the chances of the Black Stars making their World Cup debut, however called on stakeholders in football to be dedicated to this course.

"Now that we are on top of Group Two, our destiny lies in our hands to ensure Ghana's participation in the World Cup in Germany", he noted. He said with the high morale in camp and the unity of purpose among the playing body, the Black Stars were not going to be pushovers in the qualifying matches.
