Tema, Aug. 16, GNA - The Second Annual Tema Mobitel Open Golf Championship tees off at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday, August 27 to end on Sunday, August 28.

Mr Ebenezer Adablanu, Chief Executive Officer of the club who announced this at Tema on Tuesday said the two-day 36-Hole Scratch competition is open to the youth as well as amateur and professional golfers throughout the country.

He said the Championship being sponsored by Millicom Ghana Limited has about 150 golfers expected to participate in the competition and also forms part of activities marking the third anniversary celebrations of the introduction of Buzz GSM in the country.

Mr Adablanu said the entry requirement for the competition is Handicap 18 for the men and Handicap 24 for the Ladies and is to be played under the rules of St. Andrews Golf Club of Scotland, the World's Golf governing body and the local rules of the Tema Golf Club. Among the notable array of golfers who had registered for the competition include Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Majority Leader of Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kofi Gyau, Captain and William Yeboah, Vice Captain of the Tema club while Captain Kwame Saarah-Mensah leads the Achimota Golf Club's team which include John Sam, Yaw Assah-Sam and Charles Tabi.

The youth would engage in an 18-Hole competition while the Professionals would battle each other in a 72-Hole event beginning Friday, August 26 to 28.

Robert Allotey would be defending the trophy he won last year. Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, Minister for Education and Sports is the Special Guest of Honour.
