Interim Hearts of Oak Coach Insists He Is Happy With GPL Delay

League Report Interim Hearts of Oak Coach Insists He Is Happy With GPL Delay
FEB 19, 2018 LISTEN

Stopgap coach for Hearts of Oak, Henry Wellington has reiterated that the delay of the 2017/18 GPL season has helped them in building a formidable side for the season.

With the future of Frank Nuttall yet to be decided by the management of the club, Wellington led the club to their club friendly against Swedru All Blacks defeating them 1:0 on Sunday.

With the departure of key players such as Vincent Atinga, Kwame Kizito, Robin Gnagne and their last season's top scorer Thomas Abbey the team is on the rebuilding process and Wellington has believed postponement of the league has helped in their preparations ahead of the upcoming campaign.

"Personally, I'm very happy with the league delay because it has given me ample time to assess my players in training. I think if it had been in full flow I wouldn’t have the time to assess or correct some of the petty mistakes we are making in friendly games,” he told the press.

"It has also helped me in spotting new talents which I don't think it would have been possible if the season had started. So, for now, that's why we are trying to build a solid team for the season."

The 2017/18 Ghana League season was scheduled to commence on February 9, but it's been postponed indefinitely after Great Olympics served the Ghana Football Association with an injunction letter in a protest that Bechem United fielded an unqualified player against them during last season's campaign.
