Vitoria Guimaraes Alhassan Wakaso's 100th Portuguese Primeira Liga Appearance Ends On Sour Note In Heavy Defeat To Braga

Ghana midfielder Alhassan Wakaso was hoping to mark his 100th appearance in the Portuguese top flight league on a fantastic note but ended up leaving the field after 29 minutes.

Wakaso was handed a starting berth on his landmark appearance in the Portuguese Primeira division in their match against Sporting Braga in the Derby do Minho ended in a 5-0 defeat.

He was harshly sent off in the 29th minute for preventing a goal-scoring move by Eduardo Wilson, which resulted in a penalty for the visitors.

Guimaraes were then down by a goal to nil courtesy Dyego Souza's 12th-minute strike but the game changed drastically after Ahmed Hassan expertly converted the spot kick as the home side went on to suffer in the Ghanaian absence.

The enterprising enforcer first moved to the Iberian Peninsula as a 19-year-old when he signed for Portimonense, where he made 4 appearances in the top flight league.

He then moved to Rio Ave where he amassed 84 appearances across three seasons and netted just once before joining French side FC Lorient in the 2017 winter transfer window.

However, after the club were demoted to the second-tier league, Wakaso left and returned to Portugal where signed for Vitoria Guimaraes in a three-year deal.

He has managed 12 appearances in the ongoing campaign totally his 100th game in the Primeira Liga against Sporting Braga on Sunday.
