FEB 17, 2018 LISTEN

It has been a long spell on the sidelines for Ghana and Schalke 04 left wing back, Baba Rahman.

A cruciate ligament injury suffered while representing Ghana in the opening match of Afcon 2017 has kept the budding talent out for well over a year.

During that spell, Schalke has fired Markus Weinzierl, the manager who orchestrated his loan from parent club Chelsea coach and appointed Domenico Tedesco in his place.

He will also face quite the task to dislodge Sporting CP fullback Lumor Agbenyenu who has featured consistently since the re-appointment of Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Black Stars.

The man himself does not seem burdened with what the future holds and just wants to enjoy his football now that his injury nightmare is over.

“I hope that in the next few days I will become an option for the coach but he will decide when it's the right time.

“In the last couple of weeks, I have worked hard to catch up because I was lacking strength and power.

“I hope that in the next few days I will become an option for the coach but he will decide when it's the right time.

“In the last couple of weeks I have worked hard to catch up because I was lacking strength and power,” he told Schalke's official website in an interview.

Despite a number of setbacks during the recovery process, he insists that both the physical and psychological burden that accompanies a long-term injury of this nature are firmly behind him.

“The injury doesn't give me any more problems, it doesn't hurt me anymore and even mentally it doesn't affect me,” he stated.

He is expected to play a role as Schalke look to make an appearance in the DFB-Pokal final.
