Richard Lartey Harrison – Makes Statement For Ghana Heavyweight Boxers

Ghanaian heavyweight boxer, Richard Nii Lartey Harrison who stands at a height of 6′ 5″ / 196cm has come out boldly to call on promoters to match him against the best heavyweight boxers on the continent.

Boasting of an impressive record of 13 fights with one loss against Kursaal, Bern for the vacant WBC Youth Silver Heavyweight Title, he still believes in himself and wants to showcase his skills and talent to Ghanaian boxing fans.

“I have trained a lot at James Town, now I want to fight and be exposed. Training without a fight is not the best I need to make some money and also gain popularity and go out to fight in the USA and other places” he told Yours Truly at the Bukom Boxing Arena when Isaac Dogboe beat Mexican Juarez by a TKO.

Richard Nii Lartey Harrison stated his desire to take on Bastie Samir who stopped Braimah Kamoko (Bukom Banku) in round 7 late 2017.

Harrison recalled that some years back he challenged the unbeaten former skipper of the Black Bombers to a fight since 2014 but failed on a sacred occasion.

"I challenged him in 2014 but he did everything possible to swerve...all I heard was his fight with Ayitey Powers in 2015", Richard Lartey stated.

"I will still want to fight Bukom Banku so that I can win more stars and points but if Bastie makes my weight, I will battle it out with him.

I am ready to fight any Boxer, Bastie is my brother, we have been together for some time but when he makes my weight am ready to fight him.

I will not reduce his weight but if he makes my weight am ready for him", he added

The National heavyweight champion sometimes reflects on his bout against Switzerland’s Ergun Mersin in 2014 which he withdrew after round 5 due to injury and says had it not been injured, he could be in the world ranks.

Richard Lartey Harrison currently has 12 wins in his 13 career fights, ten (10) were by knockout outs. He has appealed for support from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and announced his preparation towards an African heavyweight bout this year.

He also believes the best of Ghana Boxing is coming and the government should invest in the sport by putting up packages for boxers. He said boxers can be utilized by businesses with promos and adverts.

“It’s about time we use sports in Ghana to do better business. I do not understand why some companies chose actors for adverts when we are there. Look at my height and power, I can do many things, time will tell” he said.
