Volleyball Olympic Solidarity Volleyball Programme Ends In Accra

The Ghana Volleyball Association in partnership with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Olympic Solidarity has successfully organized a three months training course for volleyball coaches, P E teachers and media men from September 13 to December 15, 2017 at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Moroccan Mostafa Ahchouche, a Federation of International Volleyball Association instructor, gave a discourse on the theme “Development of the National Sports System”.

He urged coaches to instill confidence in their players and not to focus so much on the mistakes of their players, because that would result in conflicting thoughts in the minds of the players. “This would make them to think about not making further mistakes and at the same time trying implement the coach’s tactics.”

Mostafa Ahchouche said defense is a major part of volleyball system, adding that, a triple block defense should be encouraged and also urged the coaches to train players to use their entire anatomy to play the sport and not only their hands.

He analyzed several video clips where volleyball teams used defensive the approach systems in the Rio Olympics 2016 volleyball tournaments to claim victory in games.

On the final day of the course, certificates were presented to participants, while Instructed Ahchouche presented special gifts from the IOC to the Director General of the National Sports Authority Hon. Robert Sarfo and the General Secretary of the GOC, Richard Akpovavie.

Mr. Paul Atchoe, President of the Ghana Volleyball Association and 1st Vice President of the GOC said Ghana has great talent I Volleyball and they have proved on the continent to be a force to reckon with and appealed for frequent events to keep the players and officials in form.

The President of the GOC, Ben Nunoo Mensah adviced the participants to impart what they have learnt.

Presidents of the Ghana Swimming Association, Theo Edzie and Nana Mankatah of Sports For All who are GOC board members supported the final day of the course.
