Realigning Ghana League Calendar Will Take Two Years - Nyantakyi
12.12.2017 LISTEN

Ghana Football Association boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has admitted it will take at least two years to realign the Premier League Calendar with the European Calendar.

Litigation and internal troubles have ensured the current football calendar is two years back and Ghana will need to halt next season's league at a point to make way for the World Cup due to FIFA's directive that all leagues must end before the global showpiece kicks off.

The league has been tentatively set to start in February leaving no chance for its conclusion prior to the commencement of the World Cup on June 14.

This means the Ghana calender will fall further behind and Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed worry but can't see the problem solved anytime soon.

‘’We tried it about eight, seven seasons and it worked but internal wrangling and litigation led to some tampering with the league schedule,

People took the Ghana FA to court and that delayed the start of the league. That is what has brought us where we are now [two years behind], now we struggling to realign again, it might take us two or more years to realign.’’

Nyantakyi added: ''I think it is better to align with the European calendar so when it is time for players to move abroad it's easier and doesn’t affect the team and the league as a whole.''

''It also affords the Ghana FA the advantage of gaining easy access to players for releases for national team call-ups.''
