President of Phar Rangers FC, Nana Yaw Amponsah has said that the Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs should opt the female teams or create their own teams with incentives from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in a bid to develop and promote women football.

Mr Amponsah, in an interview with the GNA Sports on Thursday, said, premier league clubs should have a female team to help promote them.

The Phar Rangers President, who has also been an agent for clubs for the past decade and eying the top position at the GFA, noted that the men's league clubs would receive incentives if they adopt female clubs.

'It would ensure an effective women's league in the country if the policy is adopted.' He noted.

He said 'you cannot develop women's football if it is not on the back of men's football. If I'm a Hearts of Oak fan, what will attract me to watch for instance Aboagyewaa ladies? Nothing would attract me but if they are Hearts ladies, the connection for the fans is already there.

'So for instance if a Hearts of Oak match attracts 10,000 fans then at least that same number would watch the ladies play as a curtain raiser, thereby raising the patronage of women football in the country.

'Also if a premier league club negotiates for sponsorship, the female side would automatically also benefit from such sponsorship.

'Instead of insisting that all league clubs should have the U-17 side when we already have the U-20's and colts clubs. Why not all leagues clubs having a female team too,' he quizzed.

The 34-year-old added that the female clubs can play curtain raisers, 'if you leave women's football on its own, they will crawl for longer.'

On the GFA election in 2019, the Phar Rangers President remains confident he would win the GFA presidency.
