Golf 200 golfers to vie for UMB Accra Open trophy

All is set for the UMB Accra Open Golf Championship, scheduled for the Achimota Golf Course in Accra, from Thursday, December 7 to Sunday, December 10.

About 200 amateur and professional golfers are expected to participate in the competition, which forms part of activities marking the 45th-anniversary celebration of the bank.

Mr George Amoah, the competition secretary of the Achimota Golf Club, said the professional golfers would battle each other in the 72-Hole event for the prize money beginning Thursday, to Sunday, while the amateurs take their turn in the 36-Hole Scratch championship from Saturday to Sunday.

He said the competition would be played in accordance with the rules of the World's Golf Governing body, Ghana Golf Association (GGA) and the local rules of the Achimota Golf Club.

Among an array of golfers expected to compete for honours would include Mark Cofie Junior, captain of the Achmiota Golf Club, Mike Aggrey, President of GGA and Akwasi Opoku, Secretary of the Ghana Golf Association.

The professional's category would witness Emos Korblah, Giti Tire Celebrity Open Champion, Victor Brave-Mensah, John Mawule and Vincent Torgah competing.

Ama Morgan, Mona Captan Myles-Lamptey, Felicity Okyei Gyeabour, Elizabeth Morgan and Margaret Owusu-Baah are also set to battle each other for the ladies trophy.

Mr Amoah added that Hole-In-One in a player in the competition would receive a brand new vehicle as his or her prize.

There would also be prizes for the longest drive as well as nearest to the Pin in both the Men and the Ladies categories.

Officials of UMB are expected to grace the occasion and present trophies to the deserving winners.
