PGA Keen On Developing Young Golfers

The President of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA), Mr Anthony Mintah, has said his association is keen on developing young golfers in the country to raise international golfers in the near future.

Mr Mintah made this known at the just ended 4th edition of the Gold Fields PGA championship at the Damang golf course in the Western Region, when Engel Adamah, daughter of vice-captain Tarkwa golf club Mr Roger Adamah teed-off on the third day.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Mr Mintah noted that Ghana abounds in golf talents and it's the vision and hope of the association to nurture them into professionals especially females.

'The Ghana PGA believes in youth development because the future of golf is our youth today.

'We want to grow youth golf especially females, to see ladies become professionals golfers, but not to remain only at amateur levels, this is the time to get all hands on deck to make this a reality for our young female golfers.

'Golf is a game of discipline, honesty and hard work and is our mandate to help the young ones cultivate such traits from their early stages of life to propel them to future laurels'.

The four day tournament, which saw Tarkwa based golfer Kojo Barnni beating 2017 west African champion Vincent Torgah to take him the trophy and a cash price of GH₵25,000.00 was sponsored by Gold Fields, Total Ghana, Zen Petroleum, ATS, Stellar Logistics and a host of corporate bodies had over 54 professional, amateur, senior and female golfers from Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Benin, Senegal and Cote d' Ivoire.
