Ghanaian Media Have Destroyed GFAs Brand – Owoahene Acheampong

Division One League board chairman, Owoahene Acheampong has slammed the Ghanaian media and have insisted they are the cause of damaging the brand and reputation of the country’s football governing body [GFA].

The Ghana Football Association have struggled to secure a long-term contract for the various league.

GN Bank who are the sponsors of the Division One League have refused to extend their three years contract with the GFA after the just ended 2016/17 campaign after they have previously struggled to keep OneTouch, First Capital Bank, Polytank.

In an interview with Accra based Happy FM, Mr Owoahene have blamed the media for being the reason why sponsors are not willing to do business with the FA.

“The press is one of the factors, who always talk to destroy the brand of the FA. The media will always lambast the FA from morning to evening, which mostly scares-off potential companies to come all out to sponsor our league.

“That StarTimes in the 2016/17 league season pumped $120,000 into the Division one league with GN bank toppling it up with $700,000, so now that GN bank is proving difficult to renew its expired contract with the FA it places some kind of burden on the 48 Division One League clubs to contribute GHS30, 000 each for officiating fee if the league remains to be sponsor-less to the start of the 2017/2018 season.” He added.
