Awutu-Effutu-Senya District emerge champions

Breman Jamra, (C/R) July 5, GNA - Awutu-Effutu-Senya District emerged the overall champions in a three-day Inter Districts Schools Sports festival, which took place at Breman Jamra. The sports festival was organized to select a team to represent the Central Region in the Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports festival scheduled for Tamale next year.

The Champion District, Awutu-Effutu Senya won seven gold and a Silver, Agona District came second with four gold followed by Gomoa District with two gold while the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District placed fourth with no medal.

About 400 girls and boys from the four Districts participated in soccer, table tennis, volleyball and athletics.

Mrs. Janet Ama Lassey, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Director of Education in closing remarks commended the participants and officials for exhibiting good sportsmanship during the festival. She said that she hoped they would maintain the team spirit and train hard to enable the Region retain its championship.

Mrs Lassey said since sports is a unifying factor in most social endeavours, there is the need for the people to avoid any anti social behaviour that would destabilise the social fabric of the society.
