On October 29, 2004, Ghana’s Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko won the vacant Commonwealth bantamweight title with a twelve-round unanimous decision over Sumaila Badu.

Agbeko proved too strong for his compatriot at the said date at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Three years later, Agbeko became the seventh Ghanaian to win a world title after stopping Luis Alberto Perez to win the IBF bantamweight belt.

He would lose the belt two years later to Yonny Perez.
