Antonio Conte Provides Injury Update On Baba Rahman

Football News Antonio Conte Provides Injury Update On Baba Rahman
OCT 20, 2017 LISTEN

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is hoping that long-term absentee Baba Rahman will be fit before the end of the year.

The left-back has been battling with a knee injury that has kept him out of action since January 2017.

Rahman signed for the Blues for 20.5 million pounds but struggled to impose himself in the starting team in that famous Mourinho season that everything went bad.

A loan move to Schalke proved a wise decision but the enjoyment was cut sho as a knee injury struck halfway through the year while on international duty.

There were initial hopes that he could be back in time for the start of the season but that has proved unsuccessful with two months into the new season.

“We are hoping that he would be back before the year ends,” Antonio said while addressing the media

“He is an option and we are short of men but we have to take it carefully because his situation was complicated.”

Chelsea has struggled recently with Moratta, Kante, Drinkwater and Victor Moses all facing their individual fitness issues. The London-based side will take on Watford in the English Premier League this weekend.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has insisted that he will not rush the return of Danny Drinkwater, despite the club’s recent injuries in midfield.

Conte has suggested that he may only have one midfielder – Cesc Fabregas – available for the Premier League clash with Watford, but the Italian is not tempted to hand a playing role to Drinkwater.

The summer signing is yet to make his debut since signing from Leicester City and although Conte has revealed that the England international is “progressing well”, there is no possibility of an early return.

The 48-year-old told reporters: “Danny is progressing well, now he has started to work, not with us but he has started to work in a part of the session with us. Now it is important for him to progress well, to improve his physical condition, he is progressing well.

“It is important to recover him well, if I try to put him on the pitch without good fitness it is a risk to have another injury.

“Maybe after 34-35 days we must have patience and wait for the right moment. He is frustrated because he wants to play.”

N’Golo Kante is out until November with a hamstring problem, while David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko both sustained injuries during Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Roma.
