Tesano Spinners Emerge Champions of 2017 Stanbic Bank Table Tennis League

Tesano Spinners made up mostly of Nigerian players won both the male and female divisions of the interesting 2017 Stanbic Bank Table Tennis League which ended last Saturday at the rlg D. G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The final games were exciting with Ghana Immigration’s Derek Abrefa proving why he is Ghana’s top seed winning 3-2 against Ahmed Bello of Tesano Spinners. Consistent finalist Cylia Baah Danso of the Ghana Army lost 0-3 to Ayo Udoh of Tesano Spinners.

The competition which was sanctioned and supported by the Ghana Table Tennis Federation (GTTF) affirmed that the standard of the game is high now with the challenge from newly formed clubs.

Tesano Spinners were awarded 8,000ghc and a trophy, whilst their male counterparts got 12,000ghc for winning the league.

Derek Abrefa and Ayo Udoh were declared the overall best male and female finalists, going home with handsome cash prizes.

The most dedicated players were Bernice Borquaye and Reginald Addo.

Prospect of the season went to young Emmanuela Yaa Kyere and Ibrahim Gargo.

Most organized team award went to Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), most exciting team was Gbagbo.

Best doubles were Ray Donkor and Dominic Paddy, and the best umpire went to Ben Acquah.

Most improved players were Judith Acheampong of Madina Stars and Joseph Amissah.

Most discipline players went to Eva Adu Amankwah of Ghana Army and Jeffery Owusu of Otumfuo Stars.

Fatima Bello was awarded as the best female player (MVP), as well as Ayo Udoh, Cylia Baah Danso, Beatrice Gyasi and Bernice Borquaye who had cash prizes.

Ahmed Bello was the male MVP, with Abrefa, Emmanuel Commey, and Felix Lartey also being rewarded with cash prizes.

Chairman of the year went to Techie Menson, most disciplined club was taken by Ashiaman Power Club and special recognition going to Mr. Chris King, Mr. Sam Dei and Mr. Jason Onyame

The best teams went to Tesano Spinners, Team Coach Addo, Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana revenue authority in the female competition, while Tesano Spinners, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police and Ghana Fire Service shared honors in the male category.

After the event, president of the GTTF, Mawuko Afadzinu urged schools to encourage students to play Table Tennis, while communities must embrace the game.

He noted that preparations have begun for impending international tournaments like the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, which Ghana will feature in Table Tennis.
