Golf Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament Slated For Oct 6

Organisers of the maiden edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament slated for October 6 at the Achimota Golf Course have vowed to contribute towards the development of the country by bringing together business leaders to lay the foundation of $50 million worth of business.

Addressing the launch of the competition at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra, the President of the Ghana Golf Association, Mike Aggrey, said stroke play format contest will be contested by 90 carefully selected leaders of industry, who will use the opportunity to explore business opportunities.

Mr Aggrey disclosed that business leaders from the West African sub-region and South Africa have already confirmed their participation in the contest which will see the top 24 players in the scratch and handicap events receive exciting prizes.

"We went to the President and told him, we want to organise a tournament in his honour. He tasked us to organise a tournament that will bring together government officials and private industry that will at the end of day bring about $50 million worth of business.

"We have carefully selected industry leaders from all over the West African sub-region and South Africa for the competition. We will have players from Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast and South Africa".

The chairman of the launch of the tournament, former Commissioner on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Justice Emile Short said he was looking forward to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo performing the ceremonial tee-off of the competition when it gets underway.

Justice Short also expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the competition; South African Airways and Golden Tulip for supporting the contest.

He also mentioned that it was gratifying to finally have a golf tournament which had the backing of the Head of State of the Country.
