Accra, June 20, GNA - Black Stars central defender, Kofi Amponsah is scheduled to join his team mate Sammy Adjei in South Africa to undego treatments for the severe ankle injury he suffered in the Stars/Burkina Faso World Cup qualifier earlier this month. Amponsah who sustained the injury in the first half of the game, had his ankle placed in cast, after X'ray examinations revealed that the ligaments in the player's ankle had been badly bruised.

Mr Kofi Nsiah, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association in Press Release copied to the GNA Sports said the Greece-based defender would require an early treatment to come back to the field to help the country's course. He could however not regain total fitness despite being placed in the cast, hence the decision to fly him to South Africa for further treatment.

The defender has not enjoyed smooth campaign in the qualifiers due to series of injuries he had experienced. He missed the game against DR Congo as a result of a head injury and was compelled to pave the way for Issah Ahmed in the Burkina game. The well-built defender was also out of the last game against South Africa last weekend.
